The
Taipei Representative Office in Norway
was
established to promote better understanding of the
Republic of China (R.O.C) on
Taiwan in
Norway.
The office represents the
ROC's
interests in
Norway.
Despite no formal ties between Norway and Taiwan,
the
Taipei
Trade
Center
was set up in Oslo in September 1980 to promote trade and economic relations.
Since then
trade and economic activities between
Norway and
Taiwan
have been steadily growing.
In 1993,
the name of the Office was
changed to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office.
In
October 1999,
the name of the office was again changed to the present Taipei Representative
Office in Norway¡]TRO¡^to
enhance the substantial relations
between the two sides.
The Taipei Representative Office offers such services as issurance of passports,
visas
and entry permits, legalization of documentations, and assistance to the ROC
citizens living
or visiting in
Norway.
In 1989,
Norway set up the Norwegian Trade Council office in Taipei, to promote bilateral
trade and economic
relations.

Taiwan
is an ideal investment hub in the Asian Pacific region and has been a gateway to
other Asian markets.
Last
year¡]2002¡^the
two-way trade between Taiwan and Norway totaled US¢C327
million , an increase of 33 percent compared with the previous year.
Major
export products from
Taiwan
are information
and
communication
products, bicycles
and hardware tools. Major import
products include oil, paper and pulp, metal ore and fishery products.
However, according to Norwegian statistics, the two-way trade figure reached US¢C566
million last year.
